I am a big fan of fettucine alfredo, and it is all because of Epcot. I had actually never had it before (to my recollection) before stepping into Alfredo’s in Epcot’s Italy Pavilion on my college program back in 2007.

And then I was hooked. Sadly, Alfredo’s closed their Epcot restaurant in 2007 (right after my program) due to economic problems with the bulk of their restaurants in Italy and the high rent price that Epcot requires.

Imagine my delight though, when looking for a fettucine alfredo recipe the other night, to find the Alfredo’s recipe! (I found it here).

The Setup

I like that it’s only got a couple of ingredients — super simple! Though not all grocery stores carry egg noodles and European-style Plugra butter, so that could require a bit of a hunt if you’re looking to replicate this yourself.

Alfredo Sauce

The only thing I wasn’t sure of was the alfredo sauce — I think it was supposed to blend together better than it did (it separated a fair amount off the heat), but I’m pretty sure that was an operator-error — I either didn’t stir enough/stirred too much, or didn’t heat it at the right levels. I didn’t ruin it by any stretch though, so that was a relief.

Unfortunately, I forgot to snap a final result photo (I’m clearly not a seasoned food blogger) but it looked good, and tasted pretty much exactly how I remembered.

Here’s the easy-peasy 3-step recipe:

Ingredients:

1 lb. fresh fettuccine noodles
4 quarts boiling, salted water
1 cup unsalted Plugra butter, softened (Or use normal butter if you can’t find Plugra)
1/3 to 1/2 cup Parmesano Reggiano cheese, freshly grated

Steps:

1. Melt butter over very low heat. Go ahead and boil the pasta while the butter is melting.
2. Whisk in grated parmesan cheese; continue whisking over a low heat until the cheese melts and the butter/cheese sauce becomes a creamy consistency.
3. Once the pasta is cooked, drain and place in large pasta bowl; toss with sauce. Garnish with freshly cracked black pepper.

TGIF everyone!!

Scream 4 comes out today, and I will DEFINITELY be seeing it at some point this weekend. I’m not a huge fan of scary movies (and especially the super-gory ones of the early 00’s like Saw) but I have always loved the Scream Trilogy for some reason (order of favorites: 1,3,2) and I’m really excited to see the next installment. Especially with the original writer, director AND the important main cast members returning (plus Emma Roberts, whom I love. I blame the Nancy Drew movie she was in.)

So, in honor of Scream, and other horror flicks of that era (specifically I Know What You Did Last Summer) here’s the middle part of Boy Meets World’s super awesome horror homage “And Then There Was Shawn”:

A couple weekends ago, Sherman Oaks opened their own weekly farmers market.

I’d been to the big, permanent farmers market at The Grove roughly a billion times since I’ve moved out here, but I’ve never gone to one of the weekly ones that are so prevalent in LA before — each one is open different days of the week, and at different times, and I’m always forgetting to go until I see a sign pointing out that I JUST missed one.

This time, though, I’d left myself enough reminders to know that come 9 AM Saturday morning, it was time to get up and get my little butt over to the farmers market!

I was definitely delighted at their first efforts — a good selection of fresh flowers, and a fairly wide range of fresh (and often organic) fruit, vegetables and nuts. Prices were pretty on-par with what I normally pay too, so stopping by weekly isn’t going to break the bank.

You could also find some bakery options, and local restaurants with stands to provide breakfast. (Eggs or breakfast burritos, anyone?)

There was even some live entertainment (I have no idea if this is a typical farmers market thing, but it was really enjoyable!)

It was a little smaller than I thought it would be, but it was just the first week. This is also the first Sherman Oaks sponsored one, meaning it’s SUPER close to me — definite bonus points! I’m definitely looking forward to early Saturday morning trips for the foreseeable future!
