Or: Why I Love ABC Family’s HUGE.
I was mildly excited about this new summer show for a few reasons:
1. It stars Nikki Blonsky, and I liked her in Hairspray
2. It is summer season after all, and I needed some shows that aren’t in reruns (because who am I, really, if I’m not watching 10-12+ hours of new TV a week?)
3. It’s by Winnie Holzman and her daughter, and Winnie is the creator of My So-Called Life — a series that is tied with Freaks and Geeks for Best Canceled Way Too Early Teen Drama.
After watching for a few episodes, I’m pretty quickly getting hooked on Huge. I love the realism of the dialogue, and it just feels a lot like My So-Called Life (which is a compliment). It’s probably one of my favorite camp shows/movies, along with Heavyweights and that old Disney Channel reality show Bug Juice.
The number 1 reason this is turning into such a good show though?
Ian is totally the new Brian Krakow. Like, completely, totally, him.
