When a show starts out with “In case you’ve been living under a rock, or just got released from prison, here’s what you missed on Glee” you know it’s going to be good from there on out.
That’s right – Glee returned last night! It was in a weird time slot, after American Idol and technically starting at 9:28 PM (Does anyone know when it’s actually going to be on? I keep forgetting to look) but there it was, and it was just as good as I remembered it. I first saw Glee over the summer, when they’d only aired their pilot and before they started up again in the fall and quickly fell in love with this quirky show. Granted I’m a big sucker for all kinds of musicals (Singing in the Rain, 7 Brides for 7 Brothers, Newsies, cough High School Musical cough) so it wasn’t that big of a leap to check out a singing and dancing weekly show.
Great Moments/Quotes from the Spring Premier
* Rachel’s matching relationship calendars. She overanalyzes/obsesses over everything and I love it. “‘That way we always know what the other is up to so you can’t say you forgot we had plans when you miss our dates anymore.” and later from Finn “Look, I even circled some dates on your crazy calendar.”
*I’m loving the addition of the Vocal Adrenaline people. Idina Menzel! (Be still my Wicked/Rent/Taye Diggs-loving heart) And heartthrob Jesse St. James is already a great love interest/nemesis. He and Rachel are adorable together, and I’m hoping we see major ego issues erupt between the two leads. Is this some evil plan hatched between him and his coach, or does he genuinely like Rachel?!? I like that I genuinely have no clue.
*Rachel’s rendition of “Gives You Hell” was my absolute favorite song of the night. Thank you iTunes for having it immediately available for download.
*I’m possibly the only person who thinks this, but I think bat-shit crazy Terri is kind of great. She has been beyond annoying for a lot of the series, but also kind of hilarious, in a really crazy kind of way. She was somehow instantly more likeable after Will freaked out on her about the fake pregnancy (understandable) and I like her being the bad guy to Emma now. Her in-your-face-I’m-going-to-rearrange-your-silverware-so-there move was pretty awesomely funny.
*Puck’s douchey/awesome quip of the night (to Quinn): ”I’m not breaking up with you — I’m just saying please stop Supersizing because I don’t dig on fat chicks.”
*Brittany’s Epic Win Quote of the Night: “Did you know dolphins are just gay sharks?”
I’m glad they’re pulling back a bit on the Will/Emma relationship – it was getting to fast for me, since he broke up with his wife oh, maybe a week ago. I’m also really hoping that Finn follows through on his fighting-for-Rachel thing, because he tends to play the doof card too often with the girls and it’d be nice for him to actually have a solid opinion about one of them for once.
